A battery that no longer lasts the day is frustrating, but it is not always the battery itself. A few quick checks can tell you whether the problem is settings or wear.
Check Battery Health first
On an iPhone, open Settings, then Battery, then Battery Health & Charging. You will see Maximum Capacity, which compares your battery today with a new one. A noticeably lower number means the battery holds less charge than it used to.
Look for the usual causes
- Background App Refresh: apps updating in the background use power. Turn it off for apps you do not need.
- Screen brightness and auto-lock: a bright screen that stays on longer is a big drain.
- Location services: limit them to apps that really need your location.
- Heat: leaving the phone in a hot car or charging it under a pillow stresses the battery.
- Weak signal: the phone works harder to stay connected when reception is poor.
Update and restart
A pending iOS update or a misbehaving app can drain power. Update iOS and your apps, then restart the phone. In Settings > Battery you can see which apps use the most power and close or remove the worst offenders.
When a new battery makes sense
If Maximum Capacity is low, the phone shuts down unexpectedly, or you need to charge several times a day even after adjusting settings, a new battery is usually the practical fix. Our technicians can check the battery and give you a clear quote before any work, at your door or in our store.
