Phones rarely slow down for one single reason. Work through this list from the simplest fix to the more involved ones.
1. Restart the phone
It sounds obvious, but a restart clears temporary processes and often brings back smooth performance.
2. Free up storage
A phone with almost no free space struggles to run apps and save data. Check your storage in Settings, remove apps you no longer use and move photos and videos to a backup. Leaving a healthy amount of space free helps the phone stay responsive.
3. Update the software and apps
Updates often include performance fixes. An app that has not been updated for a long time can also cause lag or crashes.
4. Reduce what runs in the background
Close apps you are not using, turn off background refresh for ones you do not need, and remove widgets and animations you can live without.
5. Watch the heat
A phone that gets hot slows itself down to protect its parts. Take off a thick case while charging, and avoid leaving the phone in direct sun or a hot car.
6. Consider the battery
An aging battery can limit how well a phone performs, and it can also shorten the time between charges. If the phone is slow, shuts down unexpectedly and drains quickly, the battery may be the cause.
7. Reset as a last step
If nothing helps, a reset can clear software problems, but back up first because it erases the phone.
Still slow? A technician can check the battery, the storage and the hardware, and a cleanup or a new battery often makes a phone feel better. Message us for a clear quote before any work.
